Recycling Event for Styrofoam and Strings of Holiday Tree Lights
The collection will be held from 10AM-noon on Saturday, January 25th, at the Richmond Middle School, 63 Lyme Road in Hanover. Styrofoam marked #6 (no floppy types or packing peanuts, please) should be clean and free of tape and stickers. See examples here. Light strings of all types are accepted, but if you can easily remove the bulbs, please do so.
The bad weather date for this event is set for Saturday, February 1st. Check Hanover’s BetterBin app (a free app that’s very helpful for answering your recycling questions) or our Recycling/Waste page for more details.

Energy Saving Window Inserts
A Community Build in the spirit of an old fashioned barn-raising! Volunteers and customer-participants team up to assemble attractive custom-built interior storm windows to lower fuel bills and increase comfort and warmth in the winter.
We are fully booked with orders for inserts to be built September 26 to October 2. We need more volunteers to help build them! Volunteers make it possible to offer inserts to lower income households based on their ability to pay.
Volunteering at the Window Build is a fun and rewarding experience! Shifts available - morning, afternoon or evening. Light lunch provided. Sign up here or mail Dennis Robison if you’d like to help.
Compost Workshop
Learn how to build a healthy and active backyard compost heap with popular Grow More, Waste Less educator Cat Buxton. Discover how to compost successfully through all seasons, including winter.
Why compost? According to the EPA, composting is one of the most powerful actions we can take to reduce trash in landfills, address climate change, and build healthy soil.
A number of compost buckets and bins will be available for free to workshop participants who attend in person (while supply lasts).
Workshop will also be available via zoom (Meeting ID: 471 217 3301)
This workshop is funded by a USDA grant to the Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission.

Public Forum: Dartmouth's Energy Future
Join Sustainable Hanover in welcoming Dartmouth’s Sustainability Office to an open forum on Dartmouth’s energy transition!
Dartmouth is embarking on 10+ year project to transition the campus energy system, including ambitious new energy targets and efforts around campus to meet them. This will include a transition from steam-based cogeneration to a hot water system powered by several renewable sources, upgrading existing infrastructure, and implementing energy efficiency strategies. If you are curious about this project, come meet Rosi Kerr, Director of Sustainability at Dartmouth as she explains the project and invites questions from the community.
Attend in person or by zoom. Light refreshments will be served at Howe Library.

Styrofoam Collection - DATE CHANGE to JAN 27
Styrofoam Collection rescheduled from Jan 20 to Saturday, Jan 27 due to forecast of strong wind and subzero chill factor. Same time and location.
Save and bring your styrofoam to this Special Collection. Styrofoam is not accepted in your curbside bin or by the Lebanon Recycling Center. Any foam you put into “regular” recycling will end up in landfill or - worse case - ends up in the environment. We will also collect old holiday lights. All are welcome. There is no fee to participate, but donations are appreciated to support the costs associated with this event.

Upper Valley EV Expo
Sustainable Hanover is co-sponsoring the annual Upper Valley EV Expo: A National Drive Electric Week Event, on Saturday, Sept. 30 10:00-3:00 in the parking lot behind Lebanon City Hall. This could be the biggest UV EV Expo ever! There will be EV’s to inspect, food, and activities. Go to the above web site to register, volunteer, or display your EV. There will be special raffle prizes and other perks for volunteers, and you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you helped move the Upper Valley toward our emissions-free future.
