WHO KNEW Hanover Community Power Will Soon Offer Electricity with 100% Renewable Content at a Rate that Is 55% Lower Than We Paid Liberty a Year Ago?

The utilities and community power programs have announced new electricity rates. Effective February 1, Hanover Community Power (HCP) will offer CLEAN 100 for 12.4¢ per kilowatt hour. Astonishingly, this is 55% lower than the 22¢ we all paid Liberty for no-choice brown power just one year ago! HCP rates for its three other power options will also drop. CLEAN 50 (at 50% renewable content) will be 9.4¢, Granite Plus (at 33% renewable content) will be 8.4¢, and Granite Basic (at the NH minimum for renewable content) will be 8.1¢. These three HCP options will all cost less than Liberty’s new rate at 9.76¢

Most Hanover residents and businesses are enrolled in HCP Granite Plus. We encourage these HCP customers to take advantage of falling rates by investing the savings into a CLEANer option, either (1) upgrade their enrollment to CLEAN 50 which will provide more renewable content while still costing less than the current rate (from 11.3¢ to 9.4¢) or (2) go for CLEAN 100 with 100% renewable content for one penny per kilowatt more than they are now paying (from 11.3¢ to 12.4¢). If you are the “average” electricity consumer using 600 kwh each month, one penny - or more exactly 1.1¢ - works out to be an extra expense of $6.60 per month.

Why choose CLEAN 100? We have heard from Hanover residents who report that buying CLEAN 100 was the easiest and cheapest way for them to make substantial progress towards a zero carbon footprint for their household. If you are worried about how climate change is affecting our planet today and the world we might be leaving for future generations tomorrow, this is a simple action you can take to make a difference.

How to choose CLEAN 100 or any of the other HCP options? Go to https://www.communitypowernh.gov/hanover, scroll down to the section on“Electricity Supply Choices”, and fill in the form. You will need your Liberty account number. Until February 1, you will see two sets of prices, one for rates through Jan 31 and the other for rates effective Feb 1.
