WHO KNEW This Year I Can Buy Local, or at Least NH or VT Grown Items for My Thanksgiving Dinner?
I spoke with Tom Ripley, manager at the Hanover Co-op, and he provided me with a list of locally sourced foods.
Dairy - Cheese and dips for appetizers are available from at least 3 of the more than 10 dairies that supply the Co-op. Butter, cream and eggs from local farms are all available in the dairy department.
Turkey from Misty Knoll Farm or Stonewood Farm can be ordered until Nov. 21st.
Stuffing and Gravy made at the Co-op can be preordered.
Produce - Sweet and white potatoes from Edgewater Farm and Laughing ChildFarm.
Bakery Goods β At least 15 bakeries provide fresh rolls, bread and/or desserts.
Frozen Foods - Can supply your local ice cream, sorbets and frozen pies.
Beverage β Cold Cider from Lebanonβs Patch Orchard and Champlain Orchard located in Shoreham, Vt.
For items missing from my menu, I can also shop at our local Crossroad Farmstand, open until November 19th. Other Co-ops, grocery stores and farm stands sell locally grown products as well.
Buying locally reduces fuel used for shipping and unnecessary packaging thereby reducing pollution. You also end up with fresher food.
Happy Thanksgiving!
