WHO KNEW That You Can Recycle Styrofoam and Strings of Christmas Lights?

It’s true! These things don’t have to add to the mass of trash that piles up in many households during the holiday season. Instead of heading for the trash barrel, save up these items for Sustainable Hanover’s styrofoam and string light collection day on Sat., January 25, 2025. Styrofoam with the #6 mark will be collected for conversion into insulation, and light strings will be stripped to salvage copper wire.

The collection will be held from 10AM-noon on Saturday, January 25th, at the Richmond Middle School, 63 Lyme Road in Hanover. Styrofoam marked #6 (no floppy types or packing peanuts, please) should be clean and free of tape and stickers. Light strings of all types are accepted, but if you can easily remove the bulbs, please do so.

The bad weather date for this event is set for Saturday, February 1st. Check Hanover’s BetterBin app (a free app that’s very helpful for answering your recycling questions) or the SustainableHanoverNH.org web page for more details.
