WHO KNEW That a New Year’s Resolution to Buy 100% Recycled Paper Products Will Help Sequester Carbon?

Most of us make use of household paper products during the year: paper towels, paper napkins, facial tissues, and of course toilet paper.

Did you know that most of the household paper products on the shelves of grocery stores are made from 100% fresh-cut timber? Many of these trees are from the boreal forests in Canada, one of the world’s largest areas for carbon sequestration.

While there are numerous “brands” to choose from, most are made by just three major corporations. Check the fine print to see if they are made of 100% recycled paper. On the top or lower shelves in local stores you may find products that are made from 100% recycled paper: Green Forest, Field Day (COOP), Nature’s Promise (Hannaford), and 7th Generation are the ones I’ve found locally.

Buying paper products made from recycled paper will help sequester more carbon - a good New Year’s resolution!
