WHO KNEW You Can Check Off Those Gifts on Your Christmas List Easily by Using “Thoughtful Giving” and Give Back to the Earth as Well?

“Thoughtful Giving” involves thinking of new ways to give gifts without adding to all the stuff we already have and eventually have to get rid of.

You can go to the LISTEN Center and find clothes, household items, toys, and other things still in good condition. Used clothing probably has the “harmful to the earth chemicals” washed out of it so your gift is not contributing to more pollution..

You can make a contribution to a charity in someone’s name. This is a way to give a double gift by giving to the charity and also honoring the person who is important to you. This is especially true if it is a charity that is a favorite of the recipient.

You can give a tree or plant that can be planted in the yard or enjoyed for the season. The NH State Forest Service Nursery plants seedlings for sale from Dec. through May. Plants can be shipped or picked up beginning mid-April through May. Google: New Hampshire State Forest Service Nursery for information. This is a wonderful gift for a giftee who is already looking forward to spring.

Finally you can give the gift of an experience or service. Children love to be taken to a science museum, or out for a snack, or to a movie. Adults too will enjoy your company or tickets to an exciting experience. And what could be better than a voucher for some babysitting? Our time may be the best gift of all.

Enjoy your holiday shopping and contribute to the sustainability of our community in the process!
