WHO KNEW an Electric Snowblower Could Be Easy, Effective and Fun to Use?

Yes, it’s that time of year when those of us who prefer to tackle snow removal ourselves have snow shovels at the ready and the snowblower poised to exit the garage with as little maneuvering as possible. But instead of checking the gas level in your snowblower, you could just plug in your battery charger.

We made the switch to an Ego electric snowblower a few years ago. Previously, we used a monster Ariens gas-powered snowblower that seemed to have a mind of its own and often defied my directional wishes. Plus, the effort required to start it, even with a plug-in starter, was tedious—a delicate balance of choke and power. And, of course, a gas-powered snowblower uses, well….gas.

So, the switch to an electric snowblower was an easy decision. We have a good-sized driveway, and my only concern was whether the Ego would be powerful enough. Happily, it is. Starting it is a simple matter of inserting the batteries and pressing a button. The sound is less obnoxious than a gas-powered machine, and there is no gas smell, or pollution. The Ego is more polite, too, and generally goes where I want it to, although I think it’s in the nature of snowblowers to get a little bull-headed.

If you do a lot of your own snow removal, consider an electric snowblower. The Ego’s are great, and you can find them locally at Fogg’s Ace hardware on rte. 5 in Norwich.
