Central to the health of Hanover’s trees is its Town Arborist, Asa Metcalf. Asa has been the town arborist since 2013. A New Hampshire native, Asa earned his bachelor’s degree in Forest Management from UNH. He has worked in the forest industry for many years and became an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist in 2009 and an ISA Certified Urban forest Professional in 2026
Asa’s many responsibilities include maintaining the health of the town’s trees, taking down dangerous or sick trees, and supervising maintenance of town grounds, parks and cemeteries. He has also begun a project to catalogue all the town’s trees.
On Wednesday, June 3rd, Asa will talk about his work as town arborist for Hanover during a Zoom session sponsored by Sustainable Hanover. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about Asa’s work and the town’s trees.
