Who Knew Howe Library Has a Tool That Lets You Locate Heat Loss in Walls, Windows and Doors to Save Energy?
Tightening your home’s envelope is an important step in insulating your house. Besides lowering the amount of fossil fuels burned, saving energy also means saving money. Our home is about 100 years old. We’ve insulated our attic and around the perimeter of the house where the first floor meets the basement. Windows have all been replaced during the 43 years we’ve owned our home. We’ve had solar panels installed on the roof.
Now it’s time for us to check out the thermal camera from Howe Library. The camera can locate heat loss in walls, windows and doors. We’ll be able to fine tune our weather stripping and caulking. The heating season is almost over but soon we’ll be running our A/C. Tightening up our home will make the A/C more efficient as well.
Two more helpful things that Howe Library’s “Library of Things” lends out are a light-emitting diode (LED) lighting sample kit to help you choose your replacement incandescent bulbs and an electricity usage monitor for tracking energy consumption in real-time to identify inefficient appliances.
Remember, saving energy saves money.
