CORRECTION to Yesterday, May 5th’s, 'Who Knew?"

Those of us who write the weekly "Who Knews?" on Tuesdays try hard to give accurate information. Unfortunately yesterday we gave inaccurate information.

Thanks to Andy Scherer, Program Coordinator of the Upper Valley Solid Waste Management District and Outreach Coordinator for the Southern Windsor/Windham Counties Solid Waste Management District for correcting us.

Here is the correct info that Andy sent:

[The message that you posted yesterday on the Hanover listserve] “regarding NH residents being encouraged to use VT facilities to recycle their electronics [is inaccurate.] Unfortunately, this is a program for Vermont residents only and NH residents should not be bringing their electronics to VT for disposal/recycling. NH residents are able to bring their e-waste to Staples, Best Buy, Batteries Plus and transfer stations. There is also a local person in Norwich who will refurbish computers. His name is Will Smith and he can be reached at willcycle1445@gmail.com‍ ‍

Lastly, the reason electronics recycling is free for Vermonters, is that there is an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) law in the state that forces manufacturers of computers and TV’s to pay for end-of-life recycling. Perhaps this might be a good fit for NH too. I’m sure the VT DEC folks can guide their counterparts in NH DES in steps used to successfully get this law passed.”

Sounds like a good idea that VT has.

So sorry for our mistake.
